The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says its one-year crossborder trucking program could actually last three years.

The statement March 7 came only a day after Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters told a Senate committee she planned to stop the program this September. "If we were to move forward I believe it would be in violation of what the language requires in the [2008 appropriations bill]," Peters said.
