The use of groupware tools to support the Joint Application Development (JAD) technique increases the value of this technique dramatically. When groupware tools are used in an automated, or "AJAD" workshop, they greatly facilitate the generation, analysis, and documentation of information. This is particularly valuable for JAD workshops shops conducted to define and build consensus on the requirements for new systems. The JAD approach is also valuable for facilitating the transition from business process re-engineering efforts to the systems migration and re-design effort, needed to upgrade the organization's information infrastructure.
