The IRL's Indy Pro Series is getting better with age. As the development division moves toward its seventh season, a clear path to the IndyCar Series has been established. For the first time, at least six drivers who got their IRL starts in the Pro Series will race in the IndyCar Series, including the two most recent champions.
What's more, Pro Series drivers are getting quality rides. Hideki Mutoh joins Andretti Green Racing, 2007 champion Alex Lloyd is with Ganassi Racing, and 2006 champion Jay Howard signed with Marty Roth's growing operation.
Last year's tripling of the prize fund continues to pay dividends. There could be as many as 30 entries at some Pro Series events this season, led by Raphael Matos, last year's Champ Car Atlantic champion, who will drive under Andretti Green's banner. There also will be an Unser (Al III) and an Andretti (Adam).
