EDWARDS WINS IN CALIFORNIA
As AutoWeek went to press, Carl Edwards had just won the NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Fontana, California-delayed because of rain-ahead of Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. The Nationwide Series race was delayed until after the Cup race. Visit autoweek.com for our race report.
LEGGE TO DTM
Katherine Legge is one former Champ Car competitor who won't join the newly unified IndyCar Series (see page 16) this year. Audi confirmed that the former Dale Coyne Racing driver will drive a 2006-model A4 for the company in this year's DTM Series in Germany.
HENDRICK MAN DIES
Jimmy Johnson, who helped Rick Hendrick build his NASCAR empire, died Feb. 22 after a brief illness. Johnson, 61, was there in the early years as Hendrick Motorsports general manager and Hendrick's right-hand man. He retired in 1998 after 14 years with the organization.
