A bigger engine, stronger brakes and a return to a transaxle gearbox will be the highlights when Maserati's faster, more powerful GranTurismo S debuts at the Geneva motor show.
It will be the first Maserati to use the Italian company's new 4.7-liter, 440-hp V8 engine, even though the same engine debuted on Alfa Romeo's limited-edition 8C Competizione.
Based on the GranTurismo's 4.2-liter V8, the 4.7-liter engine provides enough power to fling the GranTurismo S from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, about 0.3 second faster than the standard GranTurismo, according to Maserati sources. Torque increases by 22 lb-ft, to 369 lb-ft at 4750 rpm. Top speed increases by 6 mph, to 183 mph.
Visually, the GranTurismo S is more menacing, with new 20-inch wheels and twin oval tailpipes replacing the GranTurismo's quad tips. A subtle spoiler ...
