Byline: STEVEN COLE SMITH
With 43 drivers earning points in the 2007 Sports Car Club of America Speed World Challenge Touring Car class and 55 in the GT class, interest in the series was strong. Going into 2008, it appears to be no different.
POBST MOVES
The series' top overall driver for 2007, Randy Pobst, returns with a reduced role. He won the GT class championship in his Porsche and finished second in the Touring Car championship in his Mazda 6, losing to teammate Jeff Altenburg in the final race. Pobst returns to the K-Pax Porsche, teaming with Michael Galati for GT, but leaves Mazda to drive a Volkswagen GTI for APR Motorsports in the Koni Challenge Series.
NEW LINEUP
Tri-Point Motorsports, the dominant Touring Car team, returns with champion Jeff Altenburg as lead driver, adding Tindol Motorsports' Charles Espenlaub, who has already driven a Mazda 6 in the series, and Jason Saini, who won the Mazda MX-5 Cup championship last year.
