MOST SOCCER CLINICS FOCUS ON A SINGLE DRILL or sequence of drills. After attending a clinic, the individual coach may be left with a good collection of drills but no way of implementing them in a practice situation.

Exactly how can this be done? One answer is by designing the practice in the form of a teacher's lesson plan--the kind of organization that will accommodate the drills and all the other essentials with which to train the players.

The lesson plan should be prepared in very clear and sequential steps, as follows:

1. A review of what has been learned before--sometimes called the "warm-up" part of the training session.

2. Presentation of what the players will be expected to learn.

3. Guided practice.

4. Correctives and feedback of the guided practice.
