After months of deliberations, polling and surveys, the Teamsters have decided which presidential candidate will get the backing of their 1.4 million member union: Barack Obama.
"This endorsement begins a partnership to change America," Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa said. "Together we will reinvent the political process and give a voice to those who have been ignored by the Bush administration for the past eight years."
The decision, announced Feb. 20, comes after a meeting between Hoffa and the Democratic senator from Illinois in Austin, Texas, and was based, in part, on Obama''s pledge to focus on the country''s transportation needs.
