Chrysler Product Plans?
Published reports say that Chrysler plans to pare its model lineup, cutting some 15 models. The automaker says nothing is settled yet but that model lines and dealerships need to be consolidated to eliminate costly duplication. The biggest question: Where do the Viper and the planned Demon two-seater (This Week, Jan. 28) fit if Dodge becomes a "truck''-only division of Chrysler? Stay tuned.
Split-grille Decision
Hyundai will use a stylish, split-waterfall grille for its new flagship sedan, the rear-drive, V8-powered Genesis, when it goes on sale this summer. Two grille treatments had been suggested for the car (This Week, Jan. 28), but production cars will get the plain grille without the Hyundai logo, said John Krafcik, Hyundai's vice president of product development.
Subie Diesel for Geneva
Subaru will use next month's Geneva motor show to debut its new diesel 2.0-liter turbo-charged H4 engine in the Legacy and Outback models. The engine marks the first diesel application for a horizontally opposed engine.
