Seven straight and nine of the last 10 Nationwide (formerly Busch) Series champions raced for Sprint (formerly Nextel) Cup outfits that overwhelmed the series' grass-roots teams. Unless something dramatic happens, that will continue this year.
Defending champion Carl Edwards and 2007 rookie of the year David Ragan (both with Roush Fenway Racing), as well as Clint Bowyer (Richard Childress Racing) and David Reutimann (Michael Waltrip Racing) will contest the full 35-race Nationwide and 36-race Cup schedules.
