Procrastinators, beware.

Waiting until mid-April to file your federal income tax return not only increases the potential for mistakes made in haste but also delays your receipt of a refund, if you' re eligible for one.

The IRS has released a list of seven tips to help you get a jumpstart on your taxes:

1. Gather your records in advance. Check to be sure that you have all the records you need, such as forms W-2 and 1099. Make a copy of your records for your files.

2. Get the right forms. Tax forms are available on the IRS Web site (IRS.gov).
