DE FERRAN RETURNS
Two-time CART champion (2000, 2001) and Indy 500 winner (2003) Gil de Ferran will come out of retirement to drive a fourth Acura ARX-01b prototype in the American Le Mans Series LMP2 class. De Ferran also will run his own team, De Ferran Motorsport Engineering. The team will announce de Ferran's co-driver at a later date.
De Ferran retired from driving at the end of the 2003 season. He won a combined 12 races in CART and the IndyCar Series and was Honda F1's sporting director from 2005 to 2007.
His team's race debut is not yet set, but it could compete as early as the Long Beach Grand Prix in April.
PEUGEOT AT SEBRING
Peugeot will decide soon whether or not to take part in the ALMS 12 Hours of Sebring season opener in March. As AutoWeek went to press, Peugeot was in Sebring with its 908 HDi turbodiesel prototype. The team was to run in the official preseason test to help gauge its performance against Audi's R10 TDI, which beat it at Le Mans last year.
Peugeot almost certainly will race at Sebring, should Audi decide against taking part in the full Le Mans Series in Europe.
