The sweeping changes that are overtaking the industry are set for another public display on Sept. 26 when Seybold San Francisco will open its doors for a three-day run. Much like the Drupa show in Germany in May, this year's San Francisco event will hardly resemble its immediate predecessor -- only in this case, the most recent show was only a year ago.
As expected, there will be a strong emphasis on the Internet and publishing on the World Wide Web. But the changing tide goes far beyond that as digital printing, digital photography and computer-to-plate operations take a firm foothold.
There will be digital presses from all the major vendors and ctp systems from nearly a dozen. Digital cameras will be everywhere, both new and old. And, perhaps as a sign of the openness of the environment these days, there will be a modern printing press running on the show floor (printing the show daily tabloid newspaper). …
