Sigma-Aldrich Fine Chemicals (SAFC) says it will invest $12 million to expand its niche biologics facility at Carlsbad, CA. The company will add two viral product manufacturing suites, which will enable 100-liter batch production in stirred tank bioreactors and 1,000-liter batch manufacturing in disposable bioreactors. The expansion shifts the Carlsbad facility from clinical-scale to commercial-scale manufacturing.
