Probably most of our readers have by now encountered the Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb (CFL), that annoying helical replacement for the traditional bulb. CFLs are slow to come on, do not respond to dimmer switches, emit low buzzing sounds, collide with your lampshades, make you come out green in photographs, and contain enough mercury to make disposal an environmental issue.
