The St. Louis area's unusually warm winter was a blow to Laclede Gas Co.'s revenue and earnings. But Union Electric Co. wasn't affected as much.

Laclede's earnings for the quarter that ended March 31 were $1.15 per share, compared with $1.19 per share for the same period of 1994. Laclede officials attributed the earnings decrease primarily to lower sales resulting from the warm winter.

The abnormally warm weather had a significant impact on Laclede's earnings for the fiscal year to date and the 12-month period that ended March 31. Earnings for the six months that ended March 31 were $1.73 per share, compared with $1.96 per share for the same period a year earlier. …
