RAYNAL: Somebody nabbed the keys to the Nissan Altima coupe I was supposed to drive for the night, so I got stuck in the Kia Spectra. What a huge disappointment.
Or so I thought. In hindsight, I'm glad I got "stuck'' in this Kia, because I learned a lot. For starters, 138 hp is enough to have plenty of fun around town, and it was a pleasant surprise to learn how refined this car drives, considering its sticker. The chassis feels rock-solid, and body control is as good as in the others in this class.
Same with the interior. It's roomy and as nicely screwed together as any Honda or Toyota you might otherwise shop it against, with materials of just as high quality-and better than the last Civic I drove.
Kia is coming on strong. There's nothing fancy here, but this is a nice, sensible little car. I'm impressed.
