The Japanese industrial giant Sumitomo Sitix Corp. has resurrected its interest in Phoenix as the site for a $400 million semiconductor plant that economic development officials say could spawn new high-tech development in the Valley.

Sumitomo officials recently have shown renewed interest in a potential site in north Phoenix as the location of the semiconductor manufacturing plant, said Phoenix Mayor Skip Rimsza.

"We have a 50-50 shot at being selected," Rimsza said. "They have spent a lot of time in city hall working with the professional staff to answer specific questions. The amount of time they are spending here makes me think we are in a position to have a shot at this." …
