DA MATTA AT DAYTONA
The 2002 Champ Car World Series champion, Cristiano da Matta, could compete at this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona if he gets his doctor's clearance. This would be da Matta's first race since suffering severe head injuries after he hit a deer during a Champ Car test at Road America in August 2006. Da Matta could drive a second car fielded by Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing, perhaps alongside fellow Champ Car veteran Jimmy Vasser, if Gainsco decides to run a second car.
HAMILTON'S PAYDAY
According to reports published in England, McLaren-Mercedes extended Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton's contract through at least 2012 and will pay him about $27 million per season. That represents a significant increase from the $700,000-plus-bonuses Hamilton earned in 2007.
