Our opinions ABOUT the Mazdaspeed 3 haven't changed much during its third quarter with us: Everybody around here still loves how fun it is to drive and its five-door practicality.
Several of us have tested the Mazda's cargo-hauling ability with shopping runs to bulk warehouse clubs and grocery stores and a long road trip. Every challenge saw the five-door Mazdaspeed easily handle whatever we threw at it. The combination of cargo space and spirited driving led one editor to snatch the keys for a trip to Sam's Club instead of taking an uninspiring, seemingly bigger, sport/utility vehicle. "I knew the hatch would be more than ample to swallow all the stuff I needed to pick up, and I'd still have the fun of driving the car,'' he said.
We put 4754 miles on the Mazdaspeed 3 during the quarter, and the car's performance value didn't wane a bit. "This has to be the best performance bang for the buck that starts at less than $25,000,'' noted another editor. Praise for the car's price be damned, performance continued as well.
