Hotel at Dillard's site?

Ten years after the opening of St. Louis Centre, speculation abounds about the future of the troubled downtown mall.

The mayor's office is meeting with owners of St. Louis Centre later this month to discuss strategies for invigorating the shopping center located in central downtown. Among the options on the table, according to people familiar with the talks:

* Indianapolis-based Melvin Simon & Associates buying out partner Heitman Financial Ltd. and investing $20 million to $30 million to renovate the mall.

* Moving Dillard's out to make room for a convention center hotel in the Dillard's building and former Stix garage.

* Giving the mall a main theme such as a sports/entertainment …
