In the evolving world of post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans public schools, 2007 brought changes in nearly every facet of education. In February, longtime state Superintendent of Education Cecil Picard died at age 69 from Lou Gehrig's disease after overseeing the state's public education system for 11 years.
