Teen rides to California, raises $32,000
Cold Spring Harbor High School student Kent Gillin spent most of August pedaling his bicycle from Vancouver, B.C. to San Francisco, C.A. to help raise money for Companions in Courage. Gillin's trip began on Aug. 5 and ended 1,045 miles later on Aug. 23. Gillin averaged more than 60 miles per day and raised over $32,000 for the CiC foundation.
Originally thought never to walk due to multiple health challenges at birth, Gillin beat the odds by learning to walk at age 3 1/2, thanks to dedicated teachers and therapists. Gillin's companion on the trip was his father Paul.
