ALONSO CONFIRMED
Renault F1 announced that Fernando Alonso, 26, will return to drive for the team in 2008, alongside Nelson Piquet Jr., 22, son of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet. Alonso returns to Renault after one season at McLaren-Mercedes, which he left two years before the end of his contract after not having meshed with the team. Piquet was a Renault test driver this year. The announcement leaves 2007 Renault drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen out of work.
ROSBERG SIGNS
Nico Rosberg, 22, signed a new two-year contract with WilliamsF1, ending speculation that he could replace Fernando Alonso at McLaren-Mercedes. Rosberg will drive for Williams through 2009. Kazuki Nakajima, 22, also will race for Williams next season.
DECISION DELAYED
FIA inspectors have completed their examination of McLaren's 2008 Formula One car to determine whether it incorporates any of Ferrari's intellectual property.
