Case based reasoning (CBR) has tremendous potential to reduce the systems development effort and assist information systems managers and developers. CBR systems use previous successful problem solving episodes as knowledge to solve a current problem. This approach is drastically different from traditional rule based expert systems that use only small chunks of knowledge in the form of rules to come to a conclusion. The CBR approach can be very useful for managers dealing with complex problems where previous experience can be an invaluable guide to solving problems.
