As public awareness grows regarding the effects of computers on everyday lives, so does the probability that Information Systems professionals will have to deal with the media regarding some aspect of their operations. Unfortunately, some media interactions will occur for the first time during a crisis. In these cases, IS professionals may be caught unprepared to handle their external communications in the most effective manner. This paper provides some guidance by determining which recommendations offered in the literature are deemed by professional media personnel as being most effective.
