Over the past 30 years there has been a significant, industrywide shift in the geographical balance of global petrochemicals production and investment towards the Middle East. Petrochemicals exports from the Middle East continue to play a key role in the economic development of Asia Pacific, particularly China, and form key components in finished goods bought around the world.

Shell companies have a long historical presence in the Middle East. We have sold chemicals and chemical products in the region for a very long time but since the mid-1980s our petrochemicals operations in these countries have been dramatically transformed.
