Lowe's Motor Speedway will remain in Concord, North Carolina. Track owner Bruton Smith considered moving the 1.5-mile track to another municipality or even to South Carolina when city officials balked at his plans to build a drag strip nearby. Concord and Cabarrus County offered upward of $70 million in incentives to persuade Smith to spend $100 million to $200 million to renovate the track and ultimately build the drag strip.
SHARP VS. RAHAL
Scott Sharp and Rahal Letterman Racing have traded lawsuits in a dispute that could affect the IndyCar Series in 2008.
Sharp filed first, insisting that the team had not lived up to its contract by firing 10 employees, including engineers Jeff Britton (Sharp's favorite) and Ray Lehto, failing to test and not committing funds for research and development.
Team owner Bobby Rahal said Sharp wants to race elsewhere in 2008. If Sharp leaves the team, Rahal will have a large financial hole to fill. Ryan Hunter-Reay will drive the No. 17 ethanol-sponsored car, ...
