Big Banger
We've yet to see the final version of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 set to be unveiled at the Detroit show, but photos of what's under the hood have leaked out. The official General Motors shots of the supercharged V8 for the ZR1 indicate that the engine is designated LS9, has a displacement of 6.2 liters and features a twin-screw supercharger with intercoolers integrated into the supercharger housing (as in the Cadillac STS-V).
Early Challengers
We're not sure if anyone actually camped out to be first in line to place an order for the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 (though nowadays, we wouldn't doubt it). But Dodge dealerships did expect heavy traffic as they started taking orders on Dec. 3 for the new coupe, priced at $37,995. Deliveries will begin this spring.
Dodge plans several trim levels and powertrains-V6 and smaller-displacement V8 models-for the Challenger but initially will offer only the high-performance SRT8 model equipped with a 6.1-liter Hemi V8.
