MORRISON: I won't suggest that rational thought really enters the equation for buyers of Audi's RS4 supersedan, but in brief moments of clarity, they might wonder if they didn't go just a tad bonkers when they wrote the check. That's what I thought to myself a few times while driving this "plain old'' S4.
This might be the perfect Audi sport experience, not counting the R8. In fact, this is arguably one of the most capable all-'rounders out there; it delivers high-end performance with very little sacrifice.
The price is far more reasonable compared with the RS, and you still get loads of power, rumbling sound, a great gearbox, great brakes, nice steering, all-wheel-drive traction and sweet chassis tuning. The S4 is beyond fun to toss around; it rewards good drivers, while making average drivers look good. For me, it's sized just right, too. Truthfully, I'd probably take the new S5 coupe, but if you want a four-door burner that does every-thing well-and you don't want to wait a year or so for the next-gen S4-this is your car. Or maybe the Avant would be even better.
WONG: I felt the same way about the S4. Sure, everyone would love to have the extra 80 hp in a RS4, but nobody actually ...
