Willie Traill, a descendent of the literary families of Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill, served much of his life with the Hudson's Bay Company in the West. A number of years ago, grandson Pat McCloy, librarian at the Glenbow Museum, discovered some 250 Willie's letters, and urged that they be published. Many of them appeared as "Life at Lac La Biche: Letters of W.E. Traill, 1874-1881," edited by E.J. McCullough and Michael Maccagno, in the Spring, Summer, and Autumn 1990 issues of Alberta History. Now, these and other letters encompassing Traill's fur trade career have been produced.
