The history of the Edmonton and District Historical Society, a chapter of the Historical Society of Alberta, starts in 1958 when certain pivotal members of the HSA moved to Calgary and started a chapter there. The society had been headquartered in Edmonton since its formation in 1907 and the existence of a "chapter" had been redundant to the group even though membership extended throughout the province.
