Honk All You Want, Then Make More

As if customized ring tones weren't annoying (and fun) enough, now you can program your car to broadcast any sound you want-barking dogs, movie sound bites, Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive''-with a honk of your horn. Simply upload your own clips via a USB connection, and honk away. Of course, if you're creatively challenged, the Horntones FX-550 comes preprogrammed with 27 tones, but where's the fun in that? Safety Patrol

The same folks who supply Cadillac with its innovative lane-departure-warning system now make its products available in aftermarket form. The Mobileye AWS-4000 packages three systems into a single unit: Forward Collision Warning, which warns the driver of an imminent crash; Lane Departure Warning, which sends out an alert if the car unintentionally wanders from its lane; and Headway Monitoring and Warning, which helps the driver maintain a safe following distance. The entire system consists of a windshield-mounted sensor, a compact camera and a small display unit. (www.mobileye.com)

Shift Happens

We don't know if its product improves on the standard H pattern engraved on any given manual shifter-let alone the innate knowledge any enthusiast has given a combination of physical shifter positioning, vehicle speed and rpm-but we think the Indy-Cator is pretty darn cool ...
