HONDA ADDS BRAWN
The Honda Formula One team has added a big name in its quest to emerge from F1's cellar. Former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn is Honda F1's new team principal. Brawn took a sabbatical from Ferrari in 2007 after 10 years with the team, where he masterminded Michael Schumacher's five world championships to go along with the two titles Schumacher and Brawn won previously at Benetton. Brawn will oversee all aspects of Honda's F1 car development and on-track competition. Nick Fry remains as the team's CEO.
SCHUMACHER TESTING
Michael Schumacher was scheduled to drive Ferrari's 2007 car during F1 testing at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona Nov. 13-14. Ferrari says the seven-time world champion, who retired at the end of last season, has been called on to test because of his experience driving F1 cars without traction control, which will be illegal next year.
CHASE NOT CHANGING
NASCAR chairman Brian France says we shouldn't expect any major changes as NASCAR moves toward its fifth season using a playoff format to crown its Cup champion. France said in Phoenix that he's happy with the 12-driver, 10-race Chase system used to end the season. Rumors had surfaced that NASCAR might include everyone with a "regular-season'' victory, even if they were outside the top 12 in points.
