A plan has been created to bring residential developers to the downtown district

TAMPA

The drive to resurrect the Franklin Street corridor in downtown Tampa has taken a twist.

Instead of marketing the area as yet another collection of class B and C office space, the Historic Tampa/Hillsborough County Preservation Board, along with the Downtown Partnership, is now looking to residential developers to help salvage the area.

By taking the 800 block of Franklin Street and creating a master-plan project that combines the Woolworth, Kress and Newberry buildings, Stephanie Ferrell, an architect and the director of the preservation board, designed a single complex with 15 retail units, two restaurants, 19 apartments, office space, a health club and storage …
