According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Conference on Human Antibodies and Hybridomas, held April 26-28, 1995, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, "Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) causes significant morbidity and morbility in immunocompromised and AIDS patients. Twenty percent of the AIDS patients suffer from CMV-retinitis which leads to blindness if it is not treated. In vivo diagnostics using fluorescein-conjugated human anti-CMV antibodies could be employed to detect CMV-retinitis of AIDS patients.
