It has recently come to our attention that some readers are still being harassed by scam artists posing as AutoWeek representatives. I want to reiterate the fact that AutoWeek is not soliciting anyone by telephone for renewals or any other information. These scammers now have gone so far as to say they are calling directly on my behalf. This is not true.

So, if you are contacted by one of these "scumbags,'' as Dutch likes to call them, please try to gather any information from them that you can. Rest assured, we are doing everything in our power to prosecute these criminals. We are hoping we will be able to shut them down and reveal how they came into possession of some of our readers' information.

This is the official word from our legal folks, who are doing everything they can to end this nuisance: "We are cautiously optimistic that the unauthorized subscription mailings have stopped and want to thank readers who assisted by calling or sending e-mails to report mailings or phone calls they received.
