* BMW's M cars pretty much matched Mercedes-Benz's AMG sale for sale in '06, with 20,713, topped by the M5, of which 6478 were sold. Typically, about half of sales are in the U.S. market. Over the years, more than 180,000 units of the three generations of M3 models have been sold.
