After nearly signing a deal with the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and Health System earlier this year, Jeanes Hospital has instead decided to become part of Temple University's growing health system.

On Monday, officials of Temple and Jeanes announced they had signed a letter of intent on an affiliation plan, under which the 245-bed, Quaker-sponsored hospital in Northeast Philadelphia would become a key teaching site for Temple University's School of Medicine.

Details of the partnership are expected to be finalized over the next few months.

The affiliation will also provide Temple with a network of 2,000 nursing-home beds and 500 personal-care …
