Antioxidants are a group of micronutrients that are considered to be the "good guys" - they can help protect you from health problems such as heart disease, arthritis, cataracts and allergies.

Some scientists believe that antioxidants may also slow down the aging process and help prevent infections (in older persons).

Vitamins A, C, E, beta carotene and the trace mineral selenium are the primary micronutrients that act as antioxidants.

These antioxidants have the ability to prevent substances called "free radicals" from harming the body.
