Nov. 1--BOND ISSUE TO TAME BAHT: The Finance Ministry is prepared to support proposals by the Bank of Thailand to float 500 billion baht worth of bonds to help guard against appreciation of the baht.
Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn said he supported the bond plan to help "sterilise" capital inflows.
The central bank has petitioned the ministry to approve 500 billion baht in bond issues for the programme. Under sterilisation, the central bank floats bonds to drain liquidity from the market to minimise inflationary pressures from heavy capital inflows.
Central banks use sterilisation to minimise the impact of currency intervention. The central bank purchases dollars and issues baht to help minimise exchange-rate fluctuations, while also floats bonds to prevent excessive growth in the supply of baht in the market.
"The question isn't really whether the amount is sufficient or not. We need to do whatever is needed. If 500 billion baht is enough, fine. If not, more bonds will be required," Dr Chalongphob said.
T.C.C. PLANS 'CONDOTEL': T.C.C. Capital Land is opening sales of a 1.7-billion-baht resort-style condominium, North Park Place located at Rajpruek Golf Course on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, according to CEO Chen Lian Pang.
North Park Place covers a three-rai site and will house 128 units, with sizes from 110.5 to 270 square metres and prices from 9.9 million baht. Construction will start in December and be completed in the second quarter of 2010.
