Byline: Chris Cornell
Nov. 1--Last year, after four consecutive fruitless trips to the final four, Lake Howell stood at the top of the mountain as Class 5A state champions.
This year, the Silver Hawks have to figure out how to get back with almost an entirely new cast of characters.
Nine seniors graduated from last year's team, including two-time Mr. Basketball Nick Calathes and fellow first-team all-state selections Chandler Parsons and Joey Rodriguez.
When Calathes and Parsons left for Florida and Rodriguez for Virginia Commonwealth, 90 percent of Lake Howell's offense went with them.
As Coach Reggie Kohn entered his fourth season with Monday's first practice, he's surrounded by uncertainty.
"I don't think you can replace them," Kohn said of last year's trio. "We don't have guys like that this year."
