Oct. 31--BOWLING GREEN -- Often it doesn't take college walk-ons long to walk away.
The grueling workouts, the strict regulations and the lack of a true social life aren't worth wallowing on the practice squad for some.
That's why Matt Emans' story is so gratifying.
Emans, a fifth-year senior receiver on the football team at Bowling Green State University, hasn't caught a pass in his career. He previously helped out on special teams but he no longer has those responsibilities. Emans is so inconspicuous that his name is nowhere to be found on BGSU's season statistics chart.
Time to give up? Get serious.
"It's not about playing time, it's about being part of the team and being with teammates," Emans said. "It's been a great experience."
