Oct. 31--Three candidates, including incumbent Donald A. Butcher, are running for two seats on the Wales Town Board.

Joining Butcher, 50, on the ballot are auctioneer Russ Scherrer, 58, and attorney Michael S. Simon, 49.

Butcher, running on the Republican and Conservative lines, said talks with town residents indicate they want to retain the town's rustic character. He said preserving that will remain his priority.

"We're trying to stay a small, rural farm town," said Butcher, an electrician at Mittel Steel. "We just passed a right-to-farm law. That's important to us. We're not looking to expand, commercialize or …
