Oct. 28--In an attempt to boost ridership and tie various regions of the city together, the route of the Downtown Trolley was expanded this month to include Capital Hill Mall, Helena High and the UM-Helena campus as well as the Mid Towne Shopping District.
The expansion lengthens the trolley's loop from 20 minutes to 30. The bus still makes stops at the Great Northern Town Center, Downtown and at the Capitol Complex.
"We're hoping that by adding more popular districts, more people will use it," said Ed Robinson, the city's transportation coordinator.
The fare is still 50 cents, with $1.50 buying an all-day pass.
Business leaders on the newly extended route are happy to have the service.
"There has been so little tying of the town together, and this shows one major step in trying to do that," said Terry Myhre, manager of Dillard's in the mall.
