Oct. 28--Cory Munro of Davis Lake spent several mornings this fall helping intellectually disabled kids learn to roller-skate.
She didn't have children in the program. She just read in her neighborhood newsletter that Special Olympics needed volunteers, she said last week, so she offered to help.
Thanks to Munro and other volunteers, 70 children and teens from schools across Mecklenburg County learned skating skills and more this fall.
Like "self-esteem," said a grinning Kashawn Baker, sweat still glistening on his cheeks from competing in the 500-meter event.
And "Pride!" added the Northwest School of the Arts…
