Former Mail Boxes Etc. franchisees suing UPS now have class-action status, a California appeals court recently ruled.

Acquired by UPS in 2001 for about $192 million, the franchisees claim that UPS misled them into believing that the UPS Store model would be more profitable.

All of the U.S. franchisees took on the UPS brand in 2003 and most of them changed their names to The UPS Store.

The appeals court ruled that the lower court was wrong in denying the class-action status for the lawsuits, filed in 2003. The former …
