Two of the newest national retailers to the area will open local stores in Amherst's newest shopping plaza.

Target Stores and Kohl's Department Stores will co-anchor the Windsor Park Place plaza, a nearly 200,000-square-foot shopping center planned for Transit Road, just north of Maple Road.

The plaza is one of two projects under consideration for the sprawling, mixed-used Maple-Ayer residential-commercial development.

The other is for rezoning a 57.8-acre parcel for upper-end, single-family homes.

Real estate sources said Target plans a 117,000-square-foot store while Kohl's plans an 80,600-square-foot store.
