A former wrestling coach at the University of California's Davis campus will receive $725,000 from the school for firing him in 2001 apparently in retaliation for his publicly supporting the rights of female wrestlers.
As head coach from 1995 to 2001, Michael Burch welcomed women on the varsity wrestling team. Twice he was named UC Davis coach of the year, and two women wrestlers won world championship medals.
