Ford Sync, powered by Microsoft, won't allow you to play music through your home stereo system, surf the Internet or watch video-at least, not yet.
In development with Microsoft for years and now available in the 2008 Focus, Ford Sync will let you control most digital music players and Bluetooth-enabled phones from the driver's seat, using voice commands. In the more transcendent sense, Sync is the first, imperfect, $100 laptop of automotive interfaces, and that's big.
Sync is validated with the 50 best- selling Bluetooth phones and MP3 players and should work with nearly everything. After a relatively easy setup to read and secure a phone or index an audio player, Sync will detect them when the ignition is switched on.
